Join winner of “Best Female Solo Show” at the San Francisco Fringe Festival and NY Innovative Theater Awards “Outstanding Solo Performance” nominee, for the world premiere of Una's newest, freshest, full-bodied one-woman show: JapJAP. Trying to find out who she is, tearing down borders and tearing off clothes, JapJAP’s body is her only roadmap as she embarks on a journey through identity, culture, and history.

Performed by Una Aya Osato.

Una Aya Osato was born and raised in the East Village, New York City. She works as a performer in theater and dance as well as an educator, where she is continually merging her art and politics. She began her performance career at age seven, dancing with the world renowned José Limon Dance Company, touring in the U.S. and Europe. As a youth, she was a repertory member of CityKids, where she appeared on network television. While completing her studies at LaGuardia High School for the Performing Arts, she was awarded the level one prize in theater by the U.S. Arts Recognition Talent Search and was named a finalist for the Presidential Scholar in the Arts. Following this, she was invited to participate in the Sundance Theater Laboratory where she performed in Julia Cho's 99 Histories. Since graduating Wesleyan University, she has created critically acclaimed one-woman shows, Recess and Keep It Movin', which she has performed nationally and internationally at various theaters, classrooms, community organizations and college campuses. Recess has won numerous awards including winner of "Best Female Solo Show" at the San Francisco Fringe Festival, "Volunteer Pick" award at the FRIGID New York Festival, and was nominated by the NY Innovative Theater Awards for “Outstanding Solo Performance.” Over the last year, in addition to touring her own work, Una performed in Taylor Mac’s Obie Award winning show, The Lily’s Revenge, at the HERE Arts Center. Una is very excited to be premiering her latest work JapJAP at the FRIGID New York Festival.

Moises Belizario (director) was born and raised in Brooklyn, New York City. For the last two and half decades he has worked professionally as a writer, director and actor in film, television and theater. He is currently the Artistic Director of the nationally acclaimed CityKids Repertory Company, in New York City. Belizario has had extensive experience working with youth in leadership development and the performing arts. He recently directed a music video by repertory company that is premiering at that HBO screening room later this month. Belizario and Una have worked together for many years, among their exciting work together was directing her in Recess. In addition to his directorial work on Recess, and at The CityKids Foundation, he is also currently in development for a new Broadway musical.
